As I walked through Gyalposhing again after a year and a half, I couldn’t help but feel a heavy sadness settle over me. Nothing had really changed — a few new buildings, yes, but the familiar energy of the place was gone. The campus, once vibrant and alive, now seemed abandoned in spirit. The lush greenery and the breathtaking views that made the place so special were now hidden behind overgrown bushes. Where there was once an inspiring environment, there now seemed only emptiness.
I couldn’t help but think of the businesses that once thrived here, all struggling now without the steady flow of students. The new classrooms built for my batch, now forgotten and decaying. The lecturer apartments, meant to accommodate the teachers, now stand empty, an unfortunate waste of resources. It’s a strange feeling — to see something that was once full of hope and potential now left to fade.
Nobody seems happy here anymore. The people of Gyalposhing, once welcoming and full of life, are now facing the harsh reality of what this shift has done to their livelihoods. The students, too, have lost more than just a college. They’ve lost the very spirit of this place, that sense of freedom, of being part of something bigger, something beautiful.
I can’t help but ask myself, Why did this happen? Who wanted this change? Was it all worth it? To see the life drained from a place that once held so much promise... it feels like a dream that’s turned into a distant, painful memory. I only wish I could go back, to the days when Gyalposhing felt like home, when it was full of life and hope. But now, all that’s left is a quiet emptiness.
